On-site IMI Level 3 training helps RPM Technik future-proof its specialist Porsche workshop

CASE STUDY: RPM Technik

Autotech Training delivered IMI-accredited Level 3 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Training on-site at RPM Technik's Hertfordshire workshop

RPM Technik is one of the UK's leading independent Porsche specialists, providing servicing, maintenance and performance expertise for Porsche owners across Hertfordshire and beyond. While the business had traditionally focused on combustion-engine vehicles, it recognised that the growing number of hybrid Porsche models entering the used market meant customer expectations were changing.

Having already invested in dedicated workshop facilities suitable for high-voltage vehicle work, RPM Technik understood that infrastructure alone wasn't enough. To continue offering customers the same specialist expertise, the business needed more technicians qualified to work safely and confidently on electric and hybrid vehicles.

THE AUTOTECH TRAINING SOLUTION

Autotech Training delivered IMI-accredited Level 3 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Training on-site at RPM Technik's Hertfordshire workshop for five technicians.

Delivering the training at the customer's premises meant multiple technicians could be trained together while keeping the workshop operational and minimising downtime. Using one of RPM Technik's own hybrid Porsche vehicles during the course also ensured the learning was directly relevant to the vehicles technicians service every day.

The training equipped the team with the knowledge and practical skills to:

  • Safely isolate and work on high-voltage systems
  • Understand the latest electric and hybrid vehicle technologies
  • Build confidence working on hybrid Porsche models
  • Future-proof the workshop as demand for EV and hybrid servicing continues to grow

By investing before demand became significant, RPM Technik has positioned itself to continue supporting customers safely while protecting its technicians and expanding its workshop capability.

"We weren't seeing many hybrids coming through the workshop initially, but we knew that would change as more Porsche hybrid models entered the used market. We wanted to make sure we were prepared before the demand really arrived.

Autotech Training's on-site delivery made the whole process straightforward because it minimised disruption to the workshop. We were able to train several technicians together while keeping the business operating and being able to use one of our own hybrid Porsches during the course made the training directly relevant to the type of vehicles we'll actually be working on. It makes the learning far more valuable when technicians can apply it to familiar systems and vehicles.

For us, this was about being proactive rather than reactive. The last thing you want is to wait until hybrid work becomes common and then realise your technicians aren't prepared. Investing in training now means we can support customers properly, protect our team and confidently take on this work as it grows."
