THE LONDON AMBULANCE SERVICE FUTURE PROOFS WORKSHOP MANAGERS WITH AUTOTECH TRAINING

Autotech Training, a leading provider of automotive training solutions, has spearheaded a groundbreaking Management Development Programme in collaboration with The London Ambulance Service for its workshop managers.

Tasked with preparing the service's workshop managers for the future, as the transition towards electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen vehicles and other advanced digital technologies continues, Autotech Training crafted and delivered a bespoke course tailored to the specific needs of the emergency vehicle sector.

As one of the world’s busiest ambulance services, The London Ambulance Service operates 12 dedicated workshops across the Capital, serving as the backbone for the repair and maintenance of the city's fleet of over 650 emergency response vehicles including Cars and double crew ambulances.

THE AUTOTECH TRAINING DIFFERENCE

With widespread investment in charging infrastructure across its sites and ambulance stations, The London Ambulance Service is also recruiting new vehicle technicians while upskilling current technicians to help maintain its growing fleet of energy efficient and digitally enabled vehicles. Consequently, the service recognised the critical need to equip their workshop managers with the requisite skill set to navigate the evolving automotive landscape effectively.

Autotech Training responded to this call with a comprehensive, meticulously designed 8-day programme, bringing out core elements of the workshop manager’s job description. From integrating crucial aspects of conflict resolution, health and safety protocols, financial appreciation and setting KPI's through to the intricacies of managing cutting-edge automotive technologies.

Moreover, the programme was strategically aligned with the IMI Level 4 Automotive Management course, ensuring that the managers acquired a comprehensive understanding of what’s involved in managing the evolving fleet.

Over a period of nine months, the course was delivered by Autotech Training across four, 2-day long modules.

“The next generation of emergency vehicles, which comply with the ultra-low emission zone in London and support the 2030 zero emission goal, are coming through and it is important that our workshop managers are prepared," commented Rob MacIntosh, Head of Fleet at London Ambulance Service. "We approached Autotech Training to develop a Management Development Programme that would empower our workshop managers and equip them with the right tools and knowledge to oversee this pivotal transition and uphold the highest standards of operational excellence."

Autotech Training’s Colin Gleghorn added: "We are delighted to have collaborated with The London Ambulance Service in fostering a culture of proactive adaptation and growth within the emergency vehicle management sector.

"By customising our Management Development Programme, we have enabled these workshop managers to build a robust framework that will effectively support the integration of EVs and other advanced vehicles within their workshops."

This pioneering effort by Autotech Training and The London Ambulance Service highlights the commitment of both organisations to ensure the seamless integration of cutting-edge technologies while maintaining the highest standards of service excellence and public safety. With the successful completion of the programme, the diligent service managers were awarded their well-deserved Diploma in Management Development on the 25th of October, marking a significant milestone in their professional journeys.
