EQUIPPING MOTOR VEHICLE TEACHERS WITH EV SKILLS

Brooklands College is one of Surrey’s largest providers of vocational training and further and Higher Education. Offering City & Guilds Motor Vehicle courses, the college added a Hybrid Electric Vehicle Operation Level 2 Award qualification to its automotive offering. As a result, they were keen to upskill the college Motor Vehicle team to ensure they had the skills to work on the electric vehicle and maintain a high level of teaching.

With a growing number of electric/hybrid vehicles entering UK roads, colleges play a vital role in educating young talent who are keen to forge a career within the motor industry.

While offering electric/hybrid vehicle courses to its portfolio, Brooklands College was keen to ensure that their team held the skills to effectively deliver the course to students. They also wanted to safeguard their team due to the high voltage nature of electric vehicles.

Spencer smile training

“Since meeting Dave at Mechanex in October at Sandown it was a unanimous decision to book with Autotech Training to upskill our college motor vehicle team. Our Quality & Standards team made the booking with ease and communication was excellent. On the days of training everything was spot on from start to finish, receiving all the information we required and instilling confidence in our team to deliver to learners and maintain the standard of education moving forward. Many thanks to Dave and Spencer for the two days as well as the entire Autotech Training team working in the background.”

THE AUTOTECH TRAINING DIFFERENCE

After meeting Autotech Training’s Business Development Director, Dave Walker, at a motor trade show, Alan Wells, Head of Learning for Engineering, Brooklands College, arranged for electric/hybrid training to be booked.

From its headquarters in Milton Keynes, Autotech Training operates a dedicated Electric Vehicle Training Suite complete with an electric vehicle for hands-on learning. With a network of experienced trainers, and a fleet of electric cars, the Autotech Training team are also uniquely placed to travel to clients and deliver training at their place of work. In fact, last year, the training team covered over 150,000 miles in electric cars – with over 70% of all training courses delivered on the premises of a customers. This not only helps many businesses cut down costs and downtime, but it also makes the training more personal, helping delegates retain the information.

Autotech Training travelled to Brooklands College’s Motor Vehicle faculty to deliver the IMI Level 2 and IMI Level 3 electric/hybrid vehicle courses to six of the motor vehicle team. The course was delivered over a period of two days and Autotech Training was able to help the delegates put the theory into practice with an electric vehicle and the tools required to work on them.
