MOT testers must complete their annual training and pass the assessment by 31 March 2024. If you still haven't completed your MOT Annual Training and Assessment 2023/2024, we have some useful tips that will give you the best chance of passing the test the first time.
Failing is simply not an option as it means suspension from your role as an MOT tester, which would have a detrimental effect on your career in the automotive industry.

Our 10 top tips for passing the MOT annual assessment 2023/24 first time
Before the assessment...
1. TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE
Don't delay; there's no benefit in leaving it until the last minute. In fact, delaying could affect your RAG rating.
2. TRAINING IS A MUST
Complete the full 3 hours’ worth of MOT training. It is advisable to use a training package to ensure you study the correct topics.
3. PRACTICE A USEFUL KEYBOARD TRICK
Practice using the Ctrl + F function on the MOT Testing Guide for the keyword search as you may be asked questions from the MOT Testing Guide.
What the assessment may focus on
1. DISCIPLINARY POINTS AND CESSATION
Go over the sections covering disciplinary points and cessation.
2. REGISTERING A VEHICLE FOR AN MOT TEST
Ensure you are familiar with correctly registering a vehicle for test, where you et the vehicle details from and what to do in the event of incorrectly logging on a vehicle.
3. USING MOT TESTING EQUIPMENT
Making sure you are familiar with the equipment that is expected to be used for MOT testing.
4. MOT TEST PROCEDURES
Studying what the correct procedures are for all aspects of MOT testing including when this don’t go according to plan.
5. THE MOT INSPECTION MANUAL FOR CARS AND PASSENGER VEHICLES
Familiarise yourself with the inspection manual and its layout, you could be asked any question regarding how to use it or where to find a key piece of information.
During the assessment...
1. THE THREE TABS METHOD
In your web browser have 3 tabs open: one for the test, one for the inspection manual, and one for the MOT Testing Guide.
2. STAY CALM AND DO YOUR BEST
Read the questions thoroughly, stay calm, and double-check your answers.
