Autotech Training is strengthening its commitment to electric vehicle training and safety by making the Laser EVIP 2 available as part of its wider EV safety offering, supporting both vehicle technicians and emergency responders working on modern EVs.

The Laser EVIP 2 plugs directly into a vehicle’s Type 2 charge socket, the standard charging connection used on most electric vehicles in the UK, effectively tricking the vehicle into recognising it is awaiting charge. Once connected, the vehicle cannot be driven, even with the ignition switched on.

This makes it particularly valuable in workshop environments where vehicle technicians are required to work on systems that need the ignition to remain active, providing an additional layer of safety during diagnostics and repair.

Beyond the workshop, the device has clear applications for roadside recovery operators and emergency services. Approaching a damaged or crashed electric vehicle presents unique and often underestimated risks. With no engine noise to indicate whether a vehicle is still live, responders face potential hazards including unexpected movement, exposure to high-voltage systems and the risk of fire. In these situations, the ability to quickly and safely immobilise a vehicle is critical.

By offering the Laser EVIP 2 alongside its established IMI accredited Levels 1-4 electric & hybrid vehicle training courses, Autotech Training continues to position itself as a comprehensive provider of EV support.

Its inclusion within Autotech Training’s wider offering reflects a broader focus on ensuring those working with electric vehicles are not only trained to the highest standards but also equipped with the right tools to carry out their work safely.

As the number of electric vehicles on UK roads continues to rise, the need for robust safety practices across workshops, roadside recovery and emergency response is becoming increasingly important. Autotech Training’s approach brings together knowledge, practical skills and essential equipment, helping to support safer working environments across the automotive sector and beyond
