Brayleys Cars, a multi-franchise dealer group, has successfully enhanced its MOT testing standards and improved the skills of its MOT testers through the implementation of Autotech Training's web-based platform - MOTsafe.

Operating 19 sites across the UK and performing 150 MOTs daily, Brayleys recognised the growing challenge of managing MOT data effectively. With ambitious growth plans in place to open further sites, the management team understood that even the smallest oversight in their MOT data could jeopardise their business and its reputation.

To address this risk, Brayleys implemented Autotech Training’s MOTsafe. Its highly visual online dashboard immediately provided the motor retail group with a comprehensive snapshot of vital MOT data across each of its sites. This enhanced oversight enabled the management to increase efficiency and take proactive measures to safeguard compliance.

Before integrating MOTsafe, Brayleys recognised that their sporadic monitoring of MOT data left them vulnerable to oversights that could carry serious implications. The decision to integrate MOTsafe marked a pivotal shift in their approach to managing MOT standards. While the initial goal was to maintain high testing standards and streamline MOT data management; the benefits quickly extended beyond these objectives.

Through the intuitive portal, Brayleys identified anomalies in their data—most notably, an MOT logged twice in one day due to a system crash experienced by one of their testers. By spotting it quickly through the platform, they were able to quickly alert the DVSA and rectify the situation before it escalated, demonstrating the power of real-time data analysis in mitigating risks.

A notable advantage of MOTsafe was the ability to analyse critical metrics, including retest speeds and Pass after Rectification at Station (PRS) rates. This also opened up new avenues for identifying training opportunities for their MOT testers. With the support of Autotech Training, Brayleys has been able to implement targeted training sessions on-site, ensuring that their team is continually evolving and compliant with industry standards. This focus on Continuous Professional Development (CPD) not only benefits their workforce but also enhances the service offered to customers.

One of the standout features of MOTsafe is its capacity to centralise MOT data from multiple sites, allowing garage owners like Brayleys to pinpoint areas of concern before they escalate into compliance issues. By providing real-time insights, MOTsafe empowers garages to take proactive measures against DVSA sanctions, ensuring continuous compliance and reducing the risk of site closures.

“Working with Autotech Training has significantly improved the efficiency of our MOT business,” comments Liam Perricone, Divisional Aftersales Manager at Brayleys. “As a business which is growing, we recognised that our liability grows too. It takes just one person to make a mistake and our business would be at risk. There is no room for error, and safeguarding compliance and the reputation of our business is paramount.

Brayley’s James Darby adds: “The insights of MOTsafe have not only enabled us to elevate our standards and improve efficiency but also led us to foster a culture of ongoing improvement. Through Rob and the Autotech Training team, we have carried out several training sessions with our testers which has boosted their skills and job satisfaction.”
