Autotech Training is now offering IMI accredited ADAS training for the automotive industry, ahead of the looming insurance deadline for the safe repair of vehicles equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems.
Last year, Thatcham Research announced its Insurance Industry Requirements (IIR) with regard to ADAS enabled vehicles, and the motor insurance industry is expected to direct their repair network to comply with this latest IIR guidance by no later than 31st March 2021.
With over 4.5 million ADAS-enabled vehicles on UK roads, and this figure expected to rise exponentially as car manufacturers increasingly fit the latest driver assistance technology to new models, the IIR will provide clarity to garages and workshops servicing these vehicles.
Sensor calibration requirements vary from vehicle to vehicle, and the IIR is set to ensure that vehicle manufacturers' technical specifications are met to reinstate ADAS features safely, without compromising performance.
As the training division of the Autotech Group, Autotech Training is now delivering one day, IMI accredited Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Training at its training suite in Milton Keynes.
Training is imperative to ensure that vehicle technicians can safely repair vehicles, without compromising insurance. However, a recent survey* has revealed that 29% of independent garages sometimes turn away work because they don't have the skills to service modern vehicles. With technology such as ADAS increasingly filtering through the aftermarket for repairs, it is vital that garage owners make training a priority.
After completing Autotech Training's IMI accredited course, vehicle technicians will have the ability to identify and correctly interpret information relating to a specific vehicle and its ADAS features to determine which method of calibration is required.
"As the number of ADAS-enabled vehicles join the UK roads, it is vital that the automotive aftermarket is able to offer a safe repair service," comments Mandla Ndhlovu, Training Delivery Director for Autotech Training.
"While the IIR provides the insurance supply chain with clear guidance, automotive employers need to ensure that their vehicle technicians are trained to not only comply but to instil confidence within their customers."
